Google Postmaster Tools

Google Postmaster Tools How to track deliverability to Gmail and Google Workspace accounts.

What is Google Postmaster Tools?

Google Postmaster Tools is a free service provided by Google to help domain administrators and email senders improve their email deliverability to Gmail users. The tool provides information on various metrics related to email delivery, including domain reputation, spam complaints, authentication, and encryption.

Some of the features of Google Postmaster Tools include:

  1. Domain Reputation: an overview of the sender's reputation with Gmail, including IP address and domain reputation score.
  2. Spam Rate: the percentage of emails sent by the sender that are marked as spam by Gmail users.
  3. Authentication: whether the sender is using SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
  4. Encryption: whether the sender is using TLS encryption to protect emails during transmission.
  5. Feedback Loop: feedback on messages marked as spam or sent to Gmail's "Bulk" folder; see Feedback Loop below.
  6. Compliance Status: whether your sending setup meets Google's sender requirements — see Compliance Status below.

The IP reputation/Domain reputation score is an important factor in determining email deliverability, as email servers and spam filters use it to evaluate the trustworthiness of email senders. If an IP address has a poor reputation, emails sent from that IP address may be more likely to be flagged as spam or blocked.

By using Google Postmaster Tools, senders can gain insights into how Gmail handles their emails, and take steps to improve their email deliverability and avoid being marked as spam.

How to compare these stats with Warmy?

In our dashboard, you can connect Google Postmaster (GPM) and track all metrics in one place: GPM data, warm-up statistics, and overall sending performance. This makes it easy to compare results!

GPM v2: new metrics now in Warmy

Google is retiring the original Postmaster Tools API (v1) and moving senders to a new API version with different metrics. Warmy now surfaces two new GPM v2 data points directly in your dashboard, alongside your existing GPM data — these are additions, nothing existing is being removed:

   ✍️ Compliance Status

Compliance Status shows whether your sending setup meets Google's email sender guidelines, broken down requirement by requirement — so instead of one blended reputation score, you can see exactly what needs fixing. It's available to all senders, including bulk senders (roughly 5,000+ messages/day to Gmail).

Requirements checked

For all senders: SPF and DKIM authentication, DNS records, message formatting, encryption, user-reported spam rate.

For bulk senders only: DMARC authentication, one-click unsubscribe, honor-unsubscribe.

Statuses shown in Warmy

Status What it means
Compliant Requirement is met — no action needed.
⚠️ Warning  "Needs work": setup doesn't fully meet the requirement yet; can take up to 7 days to update after a fix.
🔺 Non-Compliant Confirm whether this is a stricter failure state, or also covers Google's "No data found" cases.

Note: Compliance data applies to messages sent to personal Gmail accounts only, is calculated at the primary domain level (not per subdomain), and can take up to 24 hours, or up to 7 days after a fix to update.

Once you've connected Google Postmaster to Warmy, Compliance Status appears as a summary (e.g. "5/7 Compliant, 1 Warning, 1 Non-Compliant") plus a table with Requirement / Status / Details columns.

 ✍️ Feedback Loop

Feedback Loop shows the spam rate for individual email campaigns, rather than one blended number for your whole domain. Each campaign is tagged with a Feedback Loop ID, so you can see which specific campaigns are driving spam complaints. This requires Feedback Loop to be set up on the sending side first; Warmy can't backfill this retroactively.

What's shown:

  • Average FBL spam rate — average spam rate across all campaigns, per day, over time.
  • Identifier volume — number of unique campaign IDs seen per day.
  • Aggregated views — "From header domain" vs. "All signed domains," useful for spotting authentication-related issues.

In Warmy, this is shown as a graph across all campaigns, with the ability to filter by a specific campaign. Click a data point to drill into that campaign's detail. Include a link to this section from the graphic in-app, per the PRD.

A few things that look like problems but often aren't:

  • Spam rate drops to 0 suddenly — usually means Gmail is now filtering most mail to Spam automatically, so fewer messages reach an inbox to be reported. Not the same as good reputation.
  • Spam rate low, reputation still poor — same cause as above; check the reputation trend, not just this number.

For full troubleshooting (mismatched third-party reports, missing feedback loop IDs, etc.), see Google's Feedback Loop dashboard documentation.
